学术报告: Power Electronics: Trends and Research
Abstract
This talk will discuss the directions of power electronics development and research over the past 10 years. First, discussions will focus on low-power applications, such as the power electronics cell phones and LED lighting. Then higher power will be discussed, especially focusing on how power electronics for renewable energy is vital for seemless grid integration. Wind power, for example, may utilize High VoltageDCtransmission lines that need special multi-level converters. This requires cell stacking to lower the voltage stress on the switches. Finally, it is now being realized that the power electronics for renewable energy grid applications can help improve grid power quality. The power converters can improve reliability by reconfiguration, but also they can perform harmonic and reactive power support to the grid when there is proper communication to the system operator. Examples of reconfigurable power electronics merged with solar panels that are being developed atNortheasternUniversity(Boston,USA) will be presented.
